About Us
We are Angela and Alex, chef and owners of Luncheonette in the East End in Portland, Maine. We are proud to bring a unique concept to this town that we love dearly. Why salads? Because it's what we want to eat. All the time. Don't get us wrong, we love a guilty pleasure, too, hence our bakery offerings and beer and wine program. In the name of balance.

The Luncheonette model is familiar in a lot of different cultures: A smorgasbord in Sweden, tapas in Spain, meze in the eastern Mediterranean, okazu in Japan, banchan in Korea, so forth and so forth. A spread of appetizers becomes the star. Whether you're eating with a group, a pair, or alone, you are always encouraged to try a little bit of a lot.

Luncheonette was born of a romanticism of simple pleasures. Good food, a glass of wine, an inviting space. We've been inspired deeply by our travels abroad, by our privileged access living in New York City to the best food in the world, by Angela's Korean upbringing where food is at the center of the culture, and by Alex's training under some of the best chefs in the modern culinary world. Luncheonette is, put simply, us.
